Abstract
The Arab League was created in 1945 of a consensus between the Arab States to embody their aspirations to freedom and to defend their interests. This institution has made its weapons and its reputation through its uncompromising management of the Palestinian question to the point of being the barometer on the international scene. However, since the end of the 1970s with the new developments of this crisis, the geostrategic upheavals within the Arab-Muslim world especially with the Iranian revolution, the rise of political Islam and the emergence of new powers, the Arab League saw its influence declines rapidly. Its confinement to the political sphere alone and its great closeness to the Western powers whose interests very often coincide with those of Israel in the Near and Middle-East It has lost the confidence of Arab public opinion to the point of being described by its detractors as the “Zionist League”. Today, the question of its usefulness in the Arab-Muslim microcosm in which it is supplanted by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation is clearly arises.
